Raeleen D’Agostino Mautner, Ph.D.

The wisdom of my Italian heritage has brought me through life’s ups and downs throughout the years. I’ve studied the words of Ancient Roman Philosophers, the creative thinkers of the Renaissance, the vast and numerous contributions that Italy has made to civilization. I have conducted cross-cultural research, and national research on various Italian factors, including body image comparisons, life-style factors that contribute to well-being, and negative stereotyping of Italians and Italian-Americans.

Equally insightful  is the unassuming wisdom of the everyday, hard-working Italians that have graced my life through example and word, in one way or another throughout the years.

I am passionate about writing this book on how women over 40 can renew and feel better about their appearance, Italian-style. Why do we need this book? Because as a researcher, I am well informed about how critical it is that we look our best and that we like the way we look. Our self-image affects our mood, our social interactions, and even our opportunities in the workplace. From the time we are teenaged girls we learn to be at odds with our physical selves, as we are increasingly exposed to impossibly thin media images. This often leads to life-threatening eating disordered behavior and low self esteem. What is equally important, is how women over 40 in our society, begin an adversarial relationship with their bodies all over again. We are bombarded with anti-aging advertisements, and never a message that confirms we can be beautiful at ANY age and right into our golden years.  It is not hard to re-define our own beauty, but we must employ certain thoughts and actions.  Please share the articles in this blogsite with anyone you think could benefit by them. They are about well-being, self-enhancing rituals, and living the best life we can possibly aspire to, with a few tips gleaned from Ancient Roman times, as well as more contemporary Italian lifestyle traditions.

Please follow my work–and let me know how I can best respond to your  everyday challenges.

Living la Dolce Vita: Bring the Passion, Laughter, and Serenity of Italy into Your Daily Life (Sourcebooks) reveals all you need to know to help you live the sweet-life through the simple traditions of Italy. It reminds us to slow down and learn to make each day a celebration of LIFE. Readers have told me it has turned their lives around and reminded them of what really counts.

Lemons into Limoncello: From Loss to Personal Renaissance with the Zest of Italy (HCI Books)  is an Italian cultural perspective on getting through life’s challenges and loss. It has been called “inspiring” and “uplifting”. Some readers have left it on their bedside table when going through tough times, and said that even turning to a random paragraph has helped them get through even their lowest points. I hope it does the same for you.

Both books make great gifts for yourself, or to let someone in your life know how special they are to you. Click on cover to purchase through Amazon.
